چکیده
Thalassaemia is one of the most common inherited genetic disorders prevalent worldwide. In India, certain communities were identified with high risk of beta thalassaemia. There are more than 200 different types of beta thalassaemia mutations worldwide. The most common beta thalassaemia mutation, IVS 1-5 (G→C) is being analyzed here to get information whether this common mutation is prevailing among the domicile of Northeast region of India or not. The study included characterization of IVS 1-5 (G→C) mutations by ARMS-PCR. Among the total 460 cases referred for Haemoglobin typing, the occurrence of IVS 1-5 (G→C) was observed among the 149 cases having beta thalassaemia. Among the 149 studied cases, 94 cases (63.09%) were positive for IVS 1-5 (G→C) mutation. The rest 55 were negative for IVS 1-5 (G→C). This preliminary information regarding the mutational pattern is important for establishing prenatal diagnosis programmes. The results showed that, IVS 1-5 (G→C) mutations is the most frequent mutation encountered among the beta thalassaemic samples of this Northeast region of India.

Introduction: β –Thalassaemia was first explained by Thomas Cooly as Cooly’s anaemia in 1925. The β- thalassaemias are hereditary autosomal disorders with decreased or absent β-globin chain synthesis. The most common genetic defects in β-thalassaemias are caused by point mutations, micro deletions or insertions within the β-globin gene. Material and Methods: In this research , 142 blood sampl...

INTRODUCTION The beta thalassemias are common genetic disorders in Turkey and in this retrospective study our aim was to evaluate β-globin chain mutations and the phenotypic severity of β-thalassemia patients followed-up in our hospital, a tertiary center which serves patients from all regions of Turkey. MATERIALS AND METHODS 106 pediatric patients were analysed for β-globin gene mutations by...
متن کاملSpectrum of beta-thalassaemia mutations in transfusion dependent thalassaemia patients: practical implications in prenatal diagnosis.
The study concerned the identification of the beta-thalassaemia mutations that were present in 24 patients with beta-thalassaemia major who were transfusion dependent. The application of a modified polymerase chain reaction, the amplification refractory system (ARMS) was found to be an effective and rapid method for the identification of the beta-thalassaemia mutations. Six different mutations ...
